This is a fun and challenging course, with obstacles set to push you out of your comfort zone (but not too far!). The course is 2 loops of a 3km track, set through the fields surrounding Rostrevor Holidays. Obstacles will include river crossings, ditch crawls, mud climbs, and slippy slides. Further details can be found on The Course page.
- Am I fit enough? I’m not in the best shape; can I still participate?
Your safety is our priority. As with any exercise you may need to consult with your doctor. The event is non-competitive and will not be time, so there is no need to panic about getting around the course in a fast time. You will need to have a basic level of fitness, so as a guide, if you can run 2-3 miles, 2-3 times a week, you should be fine. Any obstacles that you are not comfortable with tackling, you can bypass if you are not aiming to be in the top 3 of your category. There will be a wide level of abilities, and we recommend you form a partnership with other runners to help you get around the course with the most fun.
- Can anyone compete?
All competitors must be 10 years or older on the day of entry. Those under 16 must be accompanied by a guardian (over 18) throughout the course.
- How do I enter?
Entry is online online only https://www.activeglobal.com/sports/rostrevor-ireland/oh-muck-mud-run-2013 Please note there is no entry available on the day.
- Who benefits from the run?
All proceeds raised from the Oh Muck! Mud Run will be donated to the Mourne Mountain Rescue Team. The event is being organized by Rostrevor Holidays, with sponsorship from various companies to help us cover the costs.
- Can I practice on the course beforehand?
Unfortunately the route is only open on the day of the race, which is Saturday, 19th October 2013.
- Are spectators allowed?
Yes, they are very welcome and we encourage them to come (there is no charge). The funnier obstacles (to watch) are centred around the start/finish area, and so will be accessible for your supporters to have a good laugh at you.
- Where can I park?
Parking will be at Rostrevor Holidays, and along the main Kilbroney Road.
- Can I run for Charity and can I link to your site from a charity page?
Yes. Proceeds from the race will go to the Mourne Mountain Rescue Team, but you can also run for your own charity and receive sponsorship for it. We have donated places to PIPS Newry, and we also have competitors running to raise funds for the Southern Area Hospice Services.
- Are there showers/washing facilities?
There will be a lovely bath as an obstacle at the end of the race, and a hose to rinse you off at the end of the course. (Temperatures may not be very agreeable to you!)
- What should I wear?
Whatever you feel most comfortable in. If you want to turn up in fancy dress, be our guest! Just make sure you don’t mind getting it dirty. We do advise a solid pair of running shoes (not your good white ones for the gym!), clothes that won’t get too heavy when covered with water and muck, and a pair of gloves will make some of the obstacles a lot more comfortable. Probably best to wear something with long sleeves.
Don’t forget to pack some towels, a garbage bag, and a change of warm clothes for after the race.
- I still have lots more questions I need answered, who could I ask?
Really? That didn’t help? Well email me on firstname.lastname@example.org and I’ll try my best to help.
